Hi! I'm Sara,
I’ve been a self taught artist for over 10 years, and that young Sara was consistently searching for the right tutorials and guides to finally understand watercolor painting.
Today, I’m an artist, art educator, and author in Virginia; I illustrate fairytale spreads for publishers, brands, and personal clients, I published my own book on digital illustration, and I have also organized retreats across different countries all over the world, with the sole purpose of meeting other creatives and sharing my love of art with them.
This course is the guide I wish I’d had when I started. There’s not much stuffy theory in these modules. Actually, my teaching style is extremely practical, and I think that’s why you’re here. You’ve read books from experts on professional watercolor painting techniques, but they all have that same stuffy, academic slant, and not much emphasis on personalizing your artwork. I’m not saying that those resources aren’t extremely foundational, but I am saying that, at the end of the day, those guides won’t ignite your passion to paint.
When I’m not painting, you can find me cooking with lots of garlic, listening to true crime podcasts, or cozied up with a blanket on the couch, gaming with my three cats and my husband Zac. 🌿

Course content
The course has 10 modules and 8+ hours of hands-on demonstrations. There are lessons on the theory, practical guides isolating animal textures, and full-length painting walkthroughs talking through the process of painting a complete animal. You can pause and replay the videos at your own pace, with manageable break points between lessons so that you don’t overwork your brain and hand during each painting session. In addition, this course is suitable for everyone! Teens, adults, and children are welcome to join, and there is no explicit content or sensitive material that needs to be monitored.
My advice would be to take the course in order; it will start from the basics skills and theory required for animal portraiture, to more advanced lessons that meld the foundational skills learned in the early modules. Each lesson is designed to be no more than 25 minutes, so that you don’t need to carve out hours each day to grow in your watercolor skills.
